Boomers Get Expensive Hobbies

A recent New York Times Article raised what I thought was an interesting point. The article is about people getting high-tech, $100k plus observatories put on their houses. While I am sure this particular fad is probably a limited one, what is interesting is that with boomers retiring, flush with money and, on the whole, more active than retirees from previous generations we are likely to see an increase in the popularity of expensive, equipment intensive hobbies. Let's see where this one goes, but maybe there will be a growing market in products that go along with these hobbies, and services linking like-minded boomers.
