If any of you have ever indulged in pandora radio, the only radio station that actually customizes its playlist around your taste, then listen up. and even if you haven't, as erudite market researchers any of you will appreciate this: pandora is the result of the "music genome project", the brainchild of some 80's stanford grads to "capture the essence of music at the fundamental level". The technology uses over 400 attributes to describe songs and a complex mathematical algorithim to organize them based on listener searches. man, those 80's stanford grads.
Some major brands have already starting buying in. budweiser select has their own channel on it (kind of ironic in that goes against the whole point of it but i guess it is meant to communicate that budweiser select is an intelligent, trend-setting brand), but the music on there is terrible.
Tim Westergren, one of the founders, is coming to NYC and will be giving a presentation on the ins and outs, meet and greet, etc. opportunity to open up discussion to where internet radio is going. next thursday 10/11, 7pm in soho at housing works' used books and cafe. for you booze-hounds who only attend things to get free drizzinks, I am not sure if they will have, but we could always use it as an excuse to make a night out of it afterward if they don't. Need to let them know so hit me back if you want to go.
