48 hours in SF...too much to see, too much to read.
This city takes fall marketing seriously. Just check out Union Square -- Naked Juices fanatics (dressed like fruit) protesting to "Go Nude" and drink their pure juice; Westin Hotels providing a zen garden (to support their current campaign); Nike and their women as athletes campaign; Macy's and sexy super models to promote The World of Calvin Klein (did you know Halle Berry's boyfriend is the face? as well as father of her baby?); Gap and the celebrity campaign with a special cutline that promotes what item the celeb is wearing and the item on display -- talk about pushing product?!
Fashion is totally alive and well too -- Thom Browne made a personal appearance at Brooks Brothers to promote his Black Fleece label; Monique Lhuillier (the West Coast Vera Wang) hosted a charity fashion show; Donald Deal and Brioni did their trunk show thing at Wilkes Bashford (still the best shop in the city); Italian house Zegna at Neiman Marcus for a made-to-measure event. NM is also pushing hard for their 100th (all over the country in October). Barneys just opened (in the old FAO Schwartz) and I heard that their gala was hosted by the pint size authoress -- Danielle Steele -- who wore a custom Lacroix coat. Bloomingdale's just celebrated their 1st anniversary and was pushing private sale (with signs everywhere -- just how private is that)?
Think every country is now "style" represented in the city -- Sweden/H&M, Spain/Mango, Spain/Zara, UK's Ben Sherman, Ted Baker, French Connection. And from the designer end -- Burberry, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Bottega Veneta. And even the only U.S. freestanding Goyard boutique for those monogrammed expensive bags. Juicy Couture actually has 2 freestanding stores for those JC devotees. And there are the expected American designer personalities like Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs, Kenneth Cole...
Wonder how long before Uniqlo shows up?
FYI, used Schesinger for research groups -- they did a great job of securing affluent men for a project tied to Milan McCann.

Interesting list of brands/names there. How long before things get homogenized in cities around the US like they did with malls? So, there's a Gap, a Banana, etc. Hmm..
